John Sayles has book deal for historical novel (AP)

NEW YORK – More than a year after his agent initial shopped a manuscript, filmmaker John Sayles has a deal for a long historical novel.

Sayles' fictionalized account of a U.S. occupation of a Philippines around a spin of a 20th century is tentatively patrician "Some Time in a Sun." It's more than 1,000 pages in manuscript form.

It will be released in 2011 by McSweeney's, a San Francisco-based press founded by writer Dave Eggers.

Sayles is best known for such drive-in theatre as "Eight Men Out" as well as "Matewan." He's additionally a writer of several books. He has lamented which he couldn't find a publisher for his new work.

McSweeney's editor Jordan Bass said Tuesday which a novel "felt similar to equal parts (E.L.) Doctorow as well as `Deadwood'" as well as praised its "captivating pacing."
